After one of the most successful and historic postseason performances in NHL history, Connor McDavid capped it off with a Conn Smythe Trophy. While the Oilers ended up falling in 7 games in the Stanley Cup Final to the Florida Panthers, McDavid’s 42 postseason points was by far the most impressive performance of the playoffs, making it only the 6th time a player has won the Conn Smythe Trophy on a losing team and the first player since Jean-Sebastien Giguere of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in 2003. While McDavid fell short of his ultimate goal, his playoff performance, including remarkable back-to-back 4-point games in games 4 and 5 of the Stanley Cup Final to help his team fight off elimination, will always be remembered as one of the greatest playoff performances in NHL history. McDavid became the first Oiler to win the Conn Smythe Trophy since Bill Ranford in 1990.
